CHILDREN’S FORUM
WE SPEAK OUT ON CHILD TRAFFICKING AND CHILD PROTECTION
4-6 AUGUST 2007, HA NOI, VIETNAM
Seventy children from areas of Viet Nam where human trafficking poses an ever-present threat, gathered in the capital Hanoi on 4-6 August 2007.
The Vietnamese forum was a three-days event jam packed with role-playing, dramatic presentation, artistic recreation of the problem of trafficking, and ultimately the recommendations from the children.
Children reviewed the recommendations from the 2004 forum and designed the new recommendations to present to government officials from COMMIT task force and the representative from the Office to Combat Child Labour and Child Trafficking, Ministry of Labour.
Some of the points for recommendations developed by the children included: their need to have more access to information to gain knowledge as well as improve our skills so we can protect ourselves from trafficking and abuse, especially those of us from remote and mountainous areas where ethnic minority people lives; their desire to participate in the process to make decisions about issues that relate to their rights and benefits and work together with adults to see them put in place.
