CHILDREN’S FORUM IN THAILAND

The Thailand National Children’s Forum was the first in the national forum series leading up to the MYF.
The forum provided the children a full participating venue to address their views towards the problem of human trafficking in Thailand and to follow up their pees’ 2004 recommendations with the senior officials from the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security.
Twenty six children and youth representatives from 6 provinces including those who experienced the impact of human trafficking were given background and information of trafficking definition, elements of trafficking according to related laws and possible causes that lead to trafficking though creative are works and group discussion.
The children also had an opportunity to make a dialogue with the high-level government officials on the issues of proper solutions to human trafficking, laws and measures that support the children to get legal status, educational opportunity, and how the government and inter-agencies can better protect the children from abuse, exploitation and trafficking.
After the forum, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security attached the recommendations from this forum to the formal letter to other relevant government agencies to inform them about these recommendations.
