Myanmar National Forum
The Myanmar National Children and Youth Forum on Human Trafficking and Migration
The Myanmar National Children and Youth Forum on Human Trafficking and Migration was held in Yangon from 19-21 September 2010. The forum was jointly sponsored by the Myanmar Ministry of Social Welfare, the Central Body for Suppression of Trafficking in Persons, World Vision Myanmar, Save the Children, Association Francois - Xavier Bagnoud and the United Nations Inter-Agency Project on Human Trafficking. 35 youth delegates attended the forum, representing 91 children and young people from 8 different provinces in Myanmar.
The delegates developed recommendations for both government and non-government agencies, as well as the delegate’s own communities and peers. These recommendations included raising awareness about unsafe migration amongst those who intend to migrate to other countries, issuing national identity cards to youth more quickly and inexpensively, using community watch / community leadership systems to help prevent trafficking, speeding up the reunification process for returned victims of trafficking and providing more livelihood support for victims when they return to Myanmar.
